Who can get a credit card, and why are some rejected?
Last updated: 20 May 2026
The age limit is usually 20, though some issuers require 23 or 25. You need to document an income, and the issuer assesses whether you can carry the credit limit alongside existing loans and credit recorded in Gjeldsregisteret.
If you are rejected, the most common reason is that total debt is high relative to income, or that you have an active payment default. Many recent credit applications can also count against you. A default is removed once the claim is settled, but it can take time to update.
Applying for several cards with one application via Axo Finans means several issuers assess you at once, without separate applications. You quickly see which offers you actually qualify for, and can pick the one with the lowest effective rate or the best benefits for you.
